ChatGPT Ads is adding tools intended to make product advertising easier to operate at scale. An advertiser email reproduced by Search Engine Roundtable announces spreadsheet-based creation of product-feed campaigns, product review visibility and broader conversion reporting. The update points toward a more manageable merchant workflow, although one advertised capability conflicts with the public documentation currently available.
What the advertiser update says
The September 30, 2026 report reproduces an email that Barry Schwartz says he received from OpenAI. It announces creation of multiple product-feed campaigns and ad groups from a spreadsheet, automatically generated ad templates, and a Products tab showing review status and rejection reasons.
The email also describes retrieving attributed conversion events beyond the campaign’s selected goal through the Insights API. This is reporting on additional outcomes, not an announcement of a new mechanism for submitting conversion events. It reports expansion into Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan.
The public documentation has a material discrepancy
OpenAI’s public Ads Manager Beta overview supports bulk creation for supported campaign types, but explicitly says CSV upload does not currently support product-feed campaign creation. That statement conflicts with the email’s announcement. The available evidence does not resolve whether this reflects documentation lag, limited availability or a difference between workflows.
Advertisers should therefore verify the options exposed in their own accounts before relying on the announced product-feed bulk feature. The email report establishes a communicated update; it does not demonstrate that every account has the same capability.
Why review visibility matters for merchants
Our editorial interpretation is that review status can help teams locate a barrier between preparing a catalog and having products ready for advertising. A rejected item and an approved item that receives little exposure require different investigations. Treating both as a performance problem can obscure the work needed to make a campaign operational.
A useful internal workflow would record product identifiers, review outcomes, rejection explanations and subsequent corrections. Keep campaign creation and product review as separate checks. Successfully importing campaign rows does not, by itself, demonstrate that every intended product can serve or that an ad will receive impressions.
The connection to SEO and AI commerce
For teams responsible for both organic discovery and advertising, the relevant connection is shared product information. Clear descriptions, current offers and useful destination pages can support a coherent customer journey. This update concerns paid campaign operations, however; it provides no evidence of an organic ranking benefit or preferential treatment in generated answers.
Separate reports for paid impressions, referred visits and organic product visibility. They describe different outcomes. An approved advertising product should not be counted as an organic recommendation, and a mention in an AI answer should not be treated as an ad impression.
Measure outcomes beyond the optimization goal
The reported API change offers a way to inspect attributed outcomes beyond the event selected for campaign optimization. Conceptually, that can help distinguish the event a system is optimizing for from other actions a business wants to understand. It does not establish causality or incremental sales on its own.
The practical takeaway is to verify account availability, resolve product review issues and keep measurement definitions clear. ChatGPT’s advertised merchant tools are becoming more operationally detailed. Calling this a complete commerce pipeline would go beyond what this update and the conflicting documentation establish.
