Google’s Merchant Center documentation now says loyalty benefits are eligible to appear in AI Mode and Gemini Apps in the United States. Member pricing and other perks can therefore become part of how a shopper encounters an offer in an AI-assisted experience.

The change makes commercial information worth auditing alongside product descriptions and images. It does not establish loyalty pricing as a new ranking factor or guarantee that a submitted benefit will appear in an AI answer.

Separate the AI surfaces from broader country coverage

The official merchant loyalty guide, checked on October 5, explicitly limits AI Mode and Gemini Apps eligibility to the US. Its broader country coverage includes Italy, with Japan handled through a linked points-program guide. Across those references, the programme encompasses 14 markets, but features and shopper experiences differ by country.

Italian merchants should therefore distinguish participation in the wider loyalty programme from availability on the named AI surfaces. The documentation does not support announcing an Italian AI Mode loyalty rollout. It also provides no absolute update timestamp establishing precisely when each sentence was added.

The guide describes benefits including member pricing, redeemable points and shipping perks, and says the organic programme is open to non-advertisers. Eligibility remains different from universal display.

Loyalty Customer Match has a Merchant API route

Google’s Merchant API guide documents managing customer loyalty associations for organic personalisation without an active Google Ads account. Merchants or authorised loyalty providers can add, update or remove tier associations.

An implementation still requires a Merchant Center account and configured loyalty tiers. The API documentation also explains that a successful request does not necessarily mean a user was matched: when matching or required consent is absent, the service can return an empty success response as a privacy protection.

That distinction matters operationally. A campaign team should not interpret transport-level success alone as proof that every intended customer will receive a personalised benefit. Nor does the organic API guide establish that all its capabilities behave identically on every AI surface.

Audit the offer that the shopper will understand

The editorial implication is that the product’s commercial context may travel further into discovery. A member price is useful only when the user can understand who qualifies and how the benefit is obtained.

A practical review would compare the configured loyalty information with the merchant’s own product and programme pages. Check that membership tiers, prices, conditions and the advertised benefits describe the same offer. Where an offer changes, identify which system owns the update and how the other surfaces are kept consistent.

For example, a merchant could offer an attractive member price while explaining the membership requirement poorly on its landing page. Improving that explanation is a recommendation for a clearer shopping journey, not evidence that Google rewards a particular wording with a higher position.

Measure exposure before claiming a visibility lift

Teams testing the feature should record the country, surface, device and observed offer. A display in a US AI experience cannot validate availability for an Italian shopper, and an eligible feed does not prove the assistant used it in a particular recommendation.

Evaluate commercial outcomes separately from configuration success. Look for the actual benefit shown and the onward customer experience before attributing conversions to loyalty visibility. The documented opportunity is richer offer presentation within AI shopping; its ranking effect and business impact need their own evidence.
